Return of the Mack.....

So I'm back. I guess. I finally got through the hassels that are moving. My moving experience especially sucked due to two ass-hats at the Uhaul place. Here is how it went:

5:30 PM friday on the phone:

Me: I am supposed to rent a truck from you for the day tommorrow.
Ass-hat number 1: Well i rented the same truck twice in the same day, can you get done by one?
Me: No. I'm moving a two bed room third floor apt. 50 miles. Not likely.
AHN1: well, show up at 8am, get the truck early and hurry.
8 AM Saturday at the Uhaul place:
Me: Hi, i'm here for a uhual truck
AHN1: Oh, I wasn't expecting you so soon, have a seat.

9:15 am

AHN1: Your truck is ready. You will have it back by one right?
Me: No
AHN1: Great. One it is. Thank you, come again.
Me: It won't be here by one
AHN1: Thank you, come again.

So me and SIX other people haul ass moving my stuff so fast i'm worried the glass in the coffee table will shatter when we break the sound barrier. The only delay was that the truck drove like an 80 year old school bus, but with less power and agility so it took an hour to drive from old apt. to new apt.

The guy calls me at 2:30 to yell at me for not having the truck back in time, but i'm on the road already so i told him to wait and i'd be right there.

2:40 Uhaul place

Ass-Hat Dos: You were supposed to be here 4 hours ago, the other man has been asking for his truck.
Me: AHN1 said 1 pm, that was 90 minutes ago, and I told him i would be late. Four hours ago, would have given me less than an hour to move across the city with the largets land area in the country.
AHD: *ignoring what i just said* I am going to charge you double because you rented for two days since you were late.
Me: Double? I had seven people move a two bed room apartment in less than 5 hours. We should get a medal or something. It's not my fault you double booked.
AHD: Your contract says your rental period was 4 hours.
Me: Show me where it says that.
AHD: *Reads all the papers several times, can't find it because it is not there* Ahah, here, it says estimated return time 1pm. you are late.
Me: Are you serious? It also says estimated pick up time 8 am, and you didn't give me the truck till 9:30. You were 90 minutes off, I was 90 minutes off. It cancels. Like magic. I'm a magician....a Mathamagician.

AHD proceeds to charge me double..wrongly....twice...my bank flags it as fraudulent and he gets a message saying call the bank for a manual approval. I can see the message from where i sit.

AHD: your card is declined. You should not rent a truck if you don't have any money.
Me: It's not declined, you screwed up. call the number and fix it.
AHD: Just give me another card.
Me: No, fix that card and use it.
AHD: I have never had a customer be so unreasonable.

He proceeds to call the number and they tell him he screwed up and fix it. My card is then instantly approved.

AHD: You should be thankful I talked your bank into approving that. I did you a big favor.
Me: Whatever. I just want to leave.

So I walk out of the shop, get to my old apt. to pick up a few last small things and realize that I left the keys to my new apt in the Uhaul truck. Which AHN1 already gave to the other guy, and it won't be returned till tuesday. Lots of phone calls later, i get the guy that now has the truck who tells me that the truck is parked in his driveway and he doesn't feel like walking out there to check for my keys and just call him back on monday. So I have to call the emergency number at the apt. complex who makes it sound like her taking the 5 minutes out of her day to throw an extra set of keys under my door mat so that I can get in when I get there is more trouble than if I had asked her for a kidney.

If I ever piss off a bunch of north koreans in a bar who happen to be upper level military personal and incite them into launching a nuke at the US, I will call and tell every single person in the country to run for it, except those people I met on saturday.

I hope you didn't pay double because they breached the contract first. Your only recourse was to breach as well. Therefore, they should not be able to charge you double. I would do three things if I were you: 1) file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau; 2) call Uhaul (the main company) and complain; and 3) become friends with an attorney so you're more prepared next time this happens.

Hey, if you pay by credit card, you can dispute the charge. Especially if you say they overcharged you, and give the circumstances, the credit company will probably stop the payment and credit your account. You may even get the entire charge wiped off depending on how you handle it and if you show proof of paperwork that the 1pm was an estimate, and if there's nothing in the contract that says they can charge you double if you don't have the truck back by that time.

I would definitely also call the BBB and file a report.

Stick it to those fuckers. What assholes. That story stressed me out.
